Once again, our diminutive DragonFly DAC has earned a five-star review from What HiFi?
This time, Kashfia Kabir takes DragonFly Copper for a spin. Throughout her evaluation, she admires its build quality, revels in its sound quality, and isn't bothered by its relatively modest set of features.
Does DragonFly Copper improve the sound of music from a laptop?
The answer is easy: "100 per cent," decides Kabir. "The change in performance is immediate: every song sounds more powerful and dynamic, and musical elements are more precisely and confidently placed in a larger, more spacious soundstage..."
And how does Copper fare against previous iterations of our award-winning DAC?
Again, Kabir doesn't quibble: "Compared to previous DragonFly DACs, the Copper sounds cleaner and less noisy, and that darker background allows for more subtlety and depth to the sound, while big dynamic shifts are handled with punch and a greater degree of gradation."
Perhaps most importantly, Copper showed no unnecessary musical biases. Kabir concludes, "No matter what genre or file type we play...the Copper handles every kind of recording to the best of its very admirable ability, allowing the songs to flourish in the spotlight."
